September 4 2020 Observations

Post by DeepSolar64 »

Session time from 11:04am to 12:09pm EDT local time ( US ) At 11:27am it is 79F. Seeing is fair but the sky is mostly cloudy.

Coronado SolarMax II 60 DS. 16x, 21.5x, 33x and 50x ( Ha )
The first thing I notice is the polar crown of three filaments in the northern hemisphere. They are slowly dwindling down in number and intensity. I can also detect the large disturbance below them, especially near the NW limb. Elsewhere on the disc I can see a small plage near the SE limb. I cannot see any prominences in double-stack so I switch to single-stack and see two. One faint hedgerow on the NE limb and a small prom on the SW limb. I still could not see the larger faint one below it shown on GONG. Trying higher magnifications I could with some difficulty see the spicule layer on the limb. While easy in the 90 it has always been a challenge to see in the 60. The spicule mottling contrast is fair and covers the solar disc.

Orion 70mm Solar Telescope. 25x and 62.5x ( WL )
I can detect the large disturbed area in the NW nearing the limb. it's still a challenge to see though. I also see a small facula near the SE limb which corresponds to a plage seen there in Ha. Fine granulation visible. No sunspots or pores can I see today.

Carpe Lumen!

James

Thanks again James.
A quiet day for Friday, but Saturday is looking better - according to SDO

I've read these reports out of order, but never mind. It is good to hear you could see the proms in the single stack mode though :hamster:
