September 5 2020 Observations.

Post by DeepSolar64 »

Session time 11:45am to 1:12pm EDT local time ( US ). Skies are mostly cloudy. Temperature is 75F at 12:10pm. Fair seeing.

Coronado SolarMax II 60 DS. 16x, 21.5x and 33x ( Ha )
I can see three remaining filaments of the polar crown in the northern hemisphere. Only two are easy. I can see the " roughness " of the magnetically disturbed area nearing the NW limb. With difficulty in single-stack I can see a single prominence on the SW limb. GONG shows another faint one on the NE limb but try as I might I cannot see it. Spicule mottling shows moderate contrast in DS. Covers disc.

Orion 70mm Solar Telescope. 25x and 62.5x ( WL )
I can faintly see the faculae associated with the disturbed area seen in the NW in the Coronado. I can also see another low contrast facula near the SE limb. Outside of fine granulation no other details visible.

Carpe Lumen!

James

You did well to spot all those details James :hamster: interesting to hear there is some faculae in the SE, I wonder if that is new or remnants from an old AR on the rounds again.

That's a good question. I got three not-so-easy ones in the SE today in Ha, one with certainty had filaments within it. I certainly have to tease out details sometimes. Quick observations in Ha are difficult.

Skies are clear here so I am going to set my Sky-Watcher 12" dobsonian up for a night's observing. Carpe Noctem!
