Last minutes Observation. 9-13-20

Post by DeepSolar64 »

Today has been overcast until about 4:30pm when the clouds started breaking up. I observed a quick 15 minutes between 5:15pm and 5:30pm EDT when I lost the sun behind the trees bordering the neighbor's yard. I observed from my front yard in the only patch of sunshine left. Temp was 75F and skies have became mostly clear. The grass is still wet from today's rain and Lily, my feline keeps me company.

Coronado SolarMax II 60 DS. 16x and 21.5x ( Ha )
I see 4 prominences. Two in the NW and one below them in the SW. I also see a small bright one in the SE. The SW prom looks triangular in shape and is separated from the disc a bit. I see two filaments. One near two proms in the NW and the other near a tiny bright prom in the SE. I see a small bright plage on the SW quad of the disc. The mottles are easily seen covering the solar disc.

Orion 70mm Solar Telescope. 25x and 62.5x ( WL )
I looked for the pores shown in the tiny SW AR earlier by the SDO but could not see them. The disc is blank except for fine granulation. I didn't have enough time to really study the disc for faint faculae.

Carpe Noctem!

James

What a sweetheart (the cat) :) and thanks for the lovely report, sounds like cycle 25 is still trying to get going. The little AR is very little ;)

If I am outside, little fuzzy Lily is always nearby. :cat Cats have often been my observing companions for years. A long while back I was observing with my 10.1" Coulter dobsonian which a friend and I modified making it an open truss design instead of the heavy classic wood-boxed sonotube design it originally was. It cut down the weight. Anyway I turned my back and I heard a THUMP. I turned around and seen the scope pointing at the zenith. I looked into the tube and there was Billy our cat sitting squarely on the primary mirror looking up at me! I yelled and he jumped out leaving a few scratches on the mirror! Needless to say I watch the Coulter and Sky-Watcher closely when Lily is around! It's no issue with classic designs, smaller reflectors or refractors. But watch those open designs with cats!!!
