The Sun - 20th September 2020

Post by David_The_Bears_Fan »

Still windy today but not quite so bad as yesterday so I took the Evostar out for a look visually to start off. Picked up an ES 4.7mm 82 degree eyepiece this week primarily for use on Mars, thought I would unleash it on the Sun  Didn't expect much at 212x but actually in moments of good seeing (and it wasn't bad at all today) it was brilliant. Some of the best views of granulation I've had visually I think. For imaging I switched to the Bresser again as the gusty breeze would have made life difficult with the bigger scope.

Some nice development in the prom in Ca-k from yesterday

Thanks Mark. The disk ended up a little darker today as I tried to bring out the prom more.

Waiting David to see what you image over the next few days - with a possible/probable new AR about to arrive.

The Cak prom has come out very well.

Can i suggest David, that a little sharpening of your Cak image will show more definition of the surface detail. (I've used PaintShopPro to show your image as sharpened and now attached).

Thanks
Terry

Very nice images David and Terry I do think the Sharpening does indeed show the surface detail better.

These are fabulous David! it sounds like you had one of those beautiful solar moments when viewing the granulation :hamster:

I love the CaK prom :bow

Looking good, David. Nice to see the faint CaK prom sticking its proverbial head out.

Thanks Terry, sadly I will be at work all week so next imaging opportunity will be on the weekend. With this one you are right I probably could have pushed the sharpening a bit more. I'm always conscious of over-cooking it but in this case it probably needed a touch more.

Hi,

Very well done. I like your 3D disc and the yellow colouring of the Sun is very well balanced and at least for my eyes very pleasant.

Also the colouring of your CaK image is very good.

Fine discs, David.

AR102S is a quite short refractor but the Cak image is good, have you stopped the aperture ?

Thanks, yes I stop it down to 50mm to get a sharp image. It's horrible @ full aperture
