Today is the Autumnal Equinox. Temp 56F at 11:00am. Skies are mostly clear. Seeing is a bit below average. I observed from 11:00am to noon EDT local time ( US ).
Coronado SolarMax II 90 DS. 32x, 44.5x and 64x ( Ha )
I got 4 filaments on the disc today. Two roundish ones in the south and one filaprom in the SW. I also got an easy thin one in the northwest nearing the limb.
I can see all the prominences shown in the GONG CerroTololo image. One in the SE shows a brighter prom curving diagonally into a much larger but much fainter prom very close to it. The brighter prom grows shorter and stubbier as time progresses. Proms on the SW disc look like a grove of stunted bushes. The ones in the NW are faint and I can only see them in single-stack. I can see small proms both north and south of the new emergent AR in the NE.
The new AR plage in the NE is easy to see and looks quite textured. I also see two more tiny plages on the disc. One just north of two filaments in the south and the other is a tiny one in the NW which is SE of the thin filament located there.
The spicule layer is visible but high power study of it is negated by the seeing. The spicule mottling is of moderate contrast today and as typical covers the solar disc.
Celestron NexStar 102GT w/Altair wedge and Baader 540nm continuum filter. 50x and 83x ( WL )
The AR faculae near the NE limb is easy and detail can be seen within it. I can see two tiny spots but only with the 540nm filter. Seeing limits higher power use. I can see the granulation but it's not obvious. Seeing has it washed out.
Carpe Lumen!
James

Sounds like you saw a lot more than what is on GONG, great observing James

Thanks Alexandra. I can often exceed the GONG images visually with my Coronado SMII 90.
