Active Regions 30th October 2020

Post by Carbon60 »

It was raining/cloudy for most of the day except for a brief period of low and very poor quality sun mid-afternoon, but I really wanted to get a glimpse of the active regions before they rotated out of view, so I decided to set up and give it a go. It really was poor viewing with high level haze affecting image clarity and the low Sun just peeping through a tree in my garden with fine twigs in the field of view made for an interesting (frustrating) session. I was also squeezed into a limited space to catch the shaft of sunlight between other obstacles around and about, which didn't help matters as I couldn't move out of the shadow of the tree. Anyhow enough excuses.....

Out of seven SERs, only one made it through to the full processing stage as the others lacked detail and contrast. The one that did survive didn't look so good in the 'normal view', but looked better in the 'inverted view' so I've presented it here in that mode. I also added a bit of colour for fun. There's some camera noise in these images as I had to boost the gain well beyond what I would normally use and the imaging speed was slower that I would have preferred.

Given the terrible forecast for this weekend, I think that's the last I'll see of this pair of active regions. Still, it looks like solar activity is pepping up...

Thanks for looking.

Stu.

Very nice Stu. It sounds like I was not the only one struggling with today’s observations. You did get some good results though.

It looks like you made the best of what was available, Stu. Very nice looking image. I hope to get a peek tomorrow, this morning was snowing here.

Stu, I really like the surface texture of those shots. Glad you had a chance to image today.

That's a great shot of the departing active regions Stuart. I'm impressed you got any clear skies at all, we've have rain for days.

That's still an excellent result considering the conditions, Stu.
