Oct 30th - 3 Lights

Post by MapleRidge »

Good day everyone...

Friday was clear here, and the start of the cooler observing weather that is about to come paid a visit too...just barely above 0C at noon when I went out to image. I was glad to see the activity associated with AR2778-2779 was still putting on a show as it nears the western limb.

The full disk Ha image below was through the LS80T/LS75FHa/B1800Ha solar scope and ASI174MM camera:

Full disk WL and CaK images were taken through the Stellarvue 100 with an ASI1600MM camera, with a Lunt Solar Wedge+Baader Continuum filter for the WL image and modded Lunt Solar Wedge+B1800CaK+BaaderK-Line filter for the CaK:

Mid day seeing was pretty grim, but I switched to the modded CR-150/DSII/B1800Ha scope with the 2.7x telecentric to image the AR's in greater detail:

To finish off I went back to the Stellarvue 110 and used a 3x focal extender to image the AR's in WL and CaK:
3x_SV110_LS75FHa_13_39_33-IMP.jpg

I still have to work on an aperture mask for CaK, but considering the seeing I was lucky to get this ;)

Clear again today and not working in the office, so I'll be out to get more of these AR's today before they rotate out of sight. Based on the way the day is starting It will be below 0C before lunch today.

SpaceWeather is predicting some new AR's to come into view on the eastern limb base don data from SDO...lets hope the show continues!!!

Take care everyone,
Brian

Indeed the first of the new AR's is now just-visible on the NE Limb with the SE Limb to follow very soon.

Thanks for your excellent images Brian

Terry, James, and Rainer...

Thanks for your comments and feedback on the session...very much appreciated :bow

James...you are right, more cold ahead but I don't mind it. I've been out doing solar at -26C and nighttime imaging at close to -40C a few times

I remember observing once back in the early 1980's with the temperature well below 0F but now even the singles above 0F in my part of the country is getting rarer. Global warming. It's getting warmer, cloudier and more light polluted. Thankfully the Sun can beat the last one!

Beautiful images Brian, especially the close ups but it is sad they are nearly gone and I never had chance to see them ;) however I don't think I could cope with your cold, I like snow but only in winter for a short time. I still have plenty of flowers in the garden :)
