4th November 2020 3-light Solar images

Post by EGRAY_OBSERVATORY »

Well today was definitely a bonus for CLEAR SKIES, where i was able to spend much more time (than of late) without those "Pesky" clouds interfering.

After various adjustments to previous imaging and trials of FireCapture, as well as a new piece of hardware too - it was a successful day, albeit a bit on the chilly-side of late, but well worth it...

The new-gear trialled through the Orion-ED80T-CF scope with Hershel Wedge for that white light was successful in showing the AR2781 on it's own screen and eventually can be connected to a computer and separately record the captures. This is a "REVOLUTION R2 IMAGER" system - from the U.S.

I'll further blocks of images a little later, as zillions of captures are yet to be processed... (perhaps i will have to employ a secretary to do the honours with that processing. On the other hand, perhaps not)...

Thanks for looking and CLEAR SKIES
Terry

Hi Terry,

Nice equipment you have there. The CaK image looks like if you overdid it with the wavelets or sharpening. ¿?

Thanks Rainer, your sharp-eyes have caught that out, so the next set of Calcium-K images may or may not have that problem to correct.
They will posted here...

indeed Geoff we here in the S.E. certainly had one of those nice blue skies and when more jets are grounded (hopefully) could even be a repeat of May'20 with deep-blue skies...

Cheers
Terry

Tomorrow will try 2.5x TV PowerMate etc...

Thanks again for looking

Thank you so much James and soon the R2 will be added. (What is the "R2" - some may ask !!! All will be revealed - shortly...

Now is the time for the last of the captures today (more or less), which include both Ha and WL.

I'm always up for comments (bad or good) as it helps me to improve - slowly !!!

Thanks for looking
Terry

Hi James,
Both the 60mm SolarScopes are Lunt as:-
LS60THaFT/B1200 LUNT 60mm Hydrogen-Alpha/FeatherTouch/B1200 Blocking-Filter
LS50FHa LUNT 50mm Ha Double-Stack Filter
LS60Cak/FT/B1200 LUNT 60mm Calcium-K/FeatherTouch/B1200 Blocking-Filter

I have just completed all the processing of today's event, including the R2, so will put that on a separate post now.
If you have any further questions, please ask...

Cheers
Terry

Hi Terry,

Can you talk us through your work flow? Have you tried using ImPPG in your process steps for deconvolution and sharpening?

Hi Terry looks like you've been having fun.

Is your imaging workflow in 16 bit? ie autostakkert is outputting a 16bit Tiff file which is being processed in 16 bits in Paint shop Pro?

Thanks Brian and yes I had been longing for a few hours of Sun-shine, which is helping me to improve. Unfortunately today, fog at first and now have to do something else in the nice-blue sky.

Thanks Stu - I do of course have iMPPG and many other progs for processing etc., but still in the early-stages of getting the scopes adjusted properly, followed by the capture progs, which has taken for ages due to the weather here. I tried Fire-capture yesterday, but even though it is quite (over) complicated compared to SharpCap, the only result near the end of the possible-session, didn't really show any improvement over SharpCap.

So ideally I've started all over again from the beginning since July'20 - with all the mods here, whilst also trying to learn from the SolarChatters here with their fantastic imagery... The basic work-flow is usually on each image...

Thanks Jochen. I've had that mount since 2017 specifically to carry the load, as the Vixen GP mount was struggling with that payload.

Thanks Mark. Yes, probably the most fun-day for years. AS!3 is definitely outputting TIFF's and I will get back to you about 16bit which I believe it is.

CLEAR SKIES
Terry
