November 5 2020 Observations. New pics!

Post by DeepSolar64 »

Session time is 11:02am until 11:45am EST local time ( US ). Skies have a considerable degree of high cloudiness. Seeing slightly above average. Temp is 63F.

Coronado SolarMax II 90 DS 32x, 44.5x, and 64x ( Ha )
The two active regions, AR12780 and AR12781 are easy to see. AR12781 in the SE shows it's spots easily and it's bright plage looks bigger than yesterday. I see one filament within it. The disturbance to the spicule field around it is easily seen. AR12780 to the NE is easy with the plage being oval-shaped. A detached plage to the NW has a fairly easily seen filament. I see another small plage in the SW quadrant.

I see 5 filaments in the northwest. All in a line leading out to a prom on the limb. I see one faint filament in the NE. I see a really easy filament to the SW of AR12781. Another tiny one is just off it's northern tip. There is a number of prominences seen around the disc. A trio in the NE shows decent detail and there is a double-group in the NE. None are really spectacular.

The mottles are of decent contrast today and I can see the spicule layer at the limb in singlestack.

Celestron NexStar 102GT w/Altair wedge and 540nm+UV-IR cut filters. 55x and 110x ( WL )
The sunspot group of AR12781 is glorious! The leading spot is textbook perfect. Round with perfect structure. The second long spot is more diffuse but still has a large penumbra surrounding it. It's umbra is in two pieces. Another group of spots divides the two dominant spots in the group. To the NW AR12780 shows three pores. The third one was very difficult. SDO shows more. Granulation is visible. I can also see the faculae to AR1271.

I have two iPhone images below. I was pleased with the full-disc white light one and the Ha limb " eclipse style " image turned ok ok but it's so hard to get a sharp image in Ha with a smartphone!

Carpe Diem!

James

I do what I can do with what I have until I can get a monochrome video camera. Thanks Mark!

Yes James, you've done well to capture those images with the iphone , which have come-out very well indeed.

If only there were some large proms, your coloured version of such - would be spectacular. I might try the same colouring on my next prom imaging session.

The R2 has all the facilities in a small package to capture any Solar-views through a tele/Solar scope, as a completely separate and portable accessory for capturing and recording via a SD Memory-card for later use at the home-based computer...

https://www.revolutionimager.com/produc ... nd-save-it shows this accessory, which I will be getting soon - hopefully...

Cheers
Terry

Hi James,
I have done quite a bit of imaging with an iPhone camera and have found the moon, planets, brighter DSOs and clusters turn out reasonably well but the sun is a challenge. Your images are surprisingly good. Well done.

Phil

Phil,
I have gotten the belts on Jupiter and the Galilean moons with my iPhone. I also got a decent one of the central region of M-31 recently and also some decent moon pictures. Hydrogen-Alpha solar has always been difficult. Focusing and exposure is so hard to get right and I have never been able to get decent disc detail. White Light solar is a bit easier but still getting a really sharp image is a challenge. Today's WL image is among the best I have done to date.

Thanks for the compliments.

James
