Re: 14Nov - AR2781 in CAK
Very nice image, and great resolution! Would you mind to tell a bit more about your experience with the Chroma filters?
And one more question: Did you try some unsharp mask? (I also clearly prefer slightly soft images to oversharpened ones, but I still suspect you might get a bit more sharpness.)
Kind regards,
Frank

Thanks for your kind comments.
I have tried using Daystar Calcium Quark, Lunt CAK wedge and Chroma filters. So far, the Chroma filters produced the best result. Unfortunately, I am beset by poor weather. I hope to do better with better weather.
I prefer soft images too but may occasionally do some sharpening

Re: 14Nov - AR2781/2 in CAK (New Image added)
There's definitely a synergy with the C11 and the 2.5xPM in CaK images which works well. These came out excellent Alfred, were you running full aperture?

After previous attempts and advice from this forum, I usually put a mask when doing CAK imaging. Frankly, this time round, after a long 2 months' break I forgot about the mask. The imaging was done earlier in the morning when the Sun is about 16 Deg above the horizone. I believe I should get better quality image if I were use the mask Thanks for your question.

Re: 14Nov - AR2781/2 in CAK & HA (New HA Image added 15 Nov)
Here is an image taken on 12 Nov at 7:50 am using the same D-ERF and setup with a Daystar Quark Chromosphere:
Please do a right click to see the image in full resolution.
Seeing was average. Again I only did a little level and contrast adjustment in photoshop. You are seeing the image without much processing.

Re: 14Nov - AR2781/2 in CAK & HA (New HA Image added 15 Nov)
I did 3 video recordings before thunder and lightning came upon us.
Equipment used as same as on 14 Nov: ARIES D-ERF mounted on Celestron C11 fitted with Chroma CAK filters in Skybender, x2.5 Televue Powermate and ASI174MM camera. The camera setting: Shutter=5.742ms, Gain=222. A 9" aperture mask was used.

Hi Dan, Stu, Frank, Eric, Alexandra, Eric, Terry, Martin and James,
Thanks for your kind comments. The earlier investigative work on getting rid of the bright reflection (associated with the Televue x2.5 Powermate) was worth it. The C11 + skybender + Chroma CAK filters + ARIES D-ERF is a winning combination.

It is especially meaningful (getting the supergranulation cells) because I apply very little processing. I am also very glad to see the 3-D effect in the last CAK image.

Hi Brian,
Thanks for your kind comments.
For those who are curious, a single frame raw capture (without any processing) looks like this:
I would say the single frame capture is rather good quality and that was why I didn't have to do much post processing to get the final image.

Re: 14Nov - AR2781/2 in CAK & HA (Single frame CAK Image added on 18 Nov)
Dear Alex,
I bought a pair of the Chroma calcium filters ( a 1-angsttrom and a 10-anstrom filter) from Apollo. I understand that these filters are the only 2 ever made. This is how I set it up:
- The 10-angstrom filter which rejects everything but a 98% transmission line at 393.4nm, is placed on the nose of a Skybender.
- The 1-angstrom filter which has 94% transmission is installed in the skybender and used for tilt tuning.
I will be testing Alluxa-Apollo CAK filters next.
Alfred
