AR2783 ED100 stacked Barlow's 21/11/2020

Post by Martin_S »

I have a been offered a 180mm Skywatcher Maksutov OTA at a good price .
I would like to do hi Res White light Solar and Lunar Imaging.
So I thought I would stack a few Barlow's on my ED100 to get an idea of how my images might look.
Here are todays results with some images of AR2783 on an average seeing day with a moderate breeze.
If anyone has any opinions on using one of these big mak's for solar , could you share them please.

An intriguing prospect, though with the cost of the ERF, would it be worth it?

Call me Geoff.

I do what I do because I want to, and because I can....

Doesn't mean I know what I'm doing, though!

Nice shots Martin. I've not used a Mak for solar (excluding a meade 90 years ago I used for whitelight).

The 2 times Barlow turned out better than I would have imagined. Can't help with the Maksutov.

Great start with your WL. I had great success many years ago with a 10inch with a WL filter and old tech Philips ToUcam. Coincidentally I've just got a WL filter for my 11inch SCT so hopefully do the same along with my Lunt 60DS for HA.

10ft x 6ft Solar RoR with Warm Room
Lunt 60mm Double Stack HA
80ed WL+ Lunt Hershal Wedge + Badder K-Line filter.
100mm AR + Lunt b1800 Ca-K module.
Neq6 Eq Mount.

2.7m Pulsar Dome.
11in Celestron SCT + White Light Filter.
70mm AR Stellavue.
12inch OO Newtonian.
Eq8 r Pro Mount.

Thank you all for your comments, I'm still looking at getting a Mak. How effective is an ND 5.0 film type solar filter, for Imaging with larger aperture telescopes over150mm?.

Superb WL images Martin :bow :hamster:

I had no luck at all with ND5 film on the C11
