A lot going on

Post by Bruce G »

The seeing has been very poor here lately, but with all that's going on, I had to have a go at it. I'm not going to have very many cloud free days for a while anyway

Bruce G

I found that my camera was undersampled when shooting full disk images. I bought a Baader VIP Barlow, which is intended to be used at various magnifications by the addition or removal of space rings. By removing all but the lens holder itself (which still has a T-thread) the magnification is reduced to 1.2, just large enough to eliminate the undersampling while still keeping the full disk in a single image.

I also purchased a Daystar Interference Eliminator. It's _much_ easier to use than the tilt devices that have three adjustment screws. I have to set it almost to its limit to get rid of the Newton's rings, but it does indeed work. The increased distance from the barlow lens increases the magnification, but I haven't calculated by how much yet.

Excellent captures Bruce, showing the current action of the pair and all the little ones.

Judging by the filaments, still a flare there...

Thanks

Terry

On ya Bruce - always nice to capture an active sun. There is quite the detail in the pics despite your poor seeing - thanks for the images.

Nice results, Bruce.

I can vouch for the Daystar Interference Eliminator. Works like a charm here as well (also with the most minimal tilt set).
