November 30 2020 Observations.

Post by DeepSolar64 »

Session time is 12 noon to 1:00pm EST local time ( US ). Skies are mostly cloudy. Temp is 46F and seeing is rather rough. Windy. I had to fight clouds to observe and observed multiple times through gaps. Seeing also hampered things a bit.

Coronado SolarMax II 60 DS. 16x and 21.5x ( Ha )
I can see 4 plage areas corresponding to 6 active areas on the disc. The easiest is the one ( Actually three close together ) corresponding to the large area of AR1275 and AR12786 and now the newly formed AR12788 southward between to two older active regions. I can only hint two filaments near the spot of AR12786. I can see the plage of AR12789 southeast of the south-central multi AR complex of AR1275-6-8. In the northeast I can see vaguely the plage of AR1287. I never could get the filament tuned in that GONG Cerro Tololo shows. I can see a smaller plage area on the SE limb.

I can see five filaments on the disc not associated with active areas. Two SE of the big multiple AR complex, Two near the SE limb south of a new emerging AR and one northwest of the spot of AR12785. In doublestack I can only see two prominences on the limb and they are located in the SW. The northernmost of these is smaller and bright and the bigger one is actually double but a bit fainter and fuzzy in appearance.

The spicule mottles are soft today.

Orion 70mm Solar Telescope. 25x and 50x ( WL )
The spot of AR12785 is almost textbook perfect with a dark unbroken umbra and symmetrical penumbra. The big spot of AR12786 is still together but starting to decay. It's umbra has now divided into two sections by a light bridge with the bigger section to the west. The northwest section of the penumbra is becoming more ragged. A cluster of smaller pores/spots are located SE of the big one. I can see two tiny spots where AR12788 is located. I can see no faculae to any of these.

I can see one small spot to AR1287 in the NE and faint faculae NE of it. The SDOHMi image shows two tiny pores in AR12789 but I cannot see them. I could barely pick out the faculae. A new emerging AR on the SE limb shows a sizeable spot among faculae. The spot looks hazy suggesting structure but it's closeness to the limb and poor seeing keeps me from cleanly resolving the umbra/penumbra shown by SDO. The spot of AR12783 has vanished beyond sight around the western limb.

I cannot see the granulation at all today.

Carpe Lumen!

James

James, nice report. You did mean SE limb, right?

Hi James,

Well done. Well here in NHSA it is very cold and thick clouds like fog ...

😂 Yeah. SE limb. I should have caught this in proofreading. Thanks Dan. I will edit it tonight when I get home.

It came in through the SpaceWeather app on my phone. It sends alerts for things like coronal holes, flares, CMEs etc.
