December 2 2020 Observations

Post by DeepSolar64 »

Session time is 11:15am until 12:15pm EST local time ( US ). Skies are clear with a temperature of 41F. Seeing is really rough today limiting magnification use on the scopes.

Coronado SolarMax II 60 DS. 16x and 22x ( Ha )
The first thing I notice is the multiple plage complex of ARs 12785-86 and 88 in the SW. I can with some difficulty pick up two filaments, one NE and one SE of the large spot of AR12786. I can see the plage of AR12789 nearing the south-central part of the disc. Well to the east of it I see the plage, spot and a single filament of AR12790. AR12787 in the north proved hard to see. I could barely detect it at all.

Filaments on the disc proved more of a challenge to see today than usual. I got three in the southern hemisphere below the " solar belt " of active regions. GONG CT shows the rightmost one to be a close double-patch but I could not resolve this. and I found another above the left-most three which GONG CT also shows double. I could not resolve it as such. Seeing probably. I also see two faint filament pairs, one in the NNE and the other in the NW.

Observing only in doublestack today I could only see prominences in the SE and SW. I could see no others around the limb.

The mottles are really soft today.

Orion 70mm Solar Telescope 27.5x ( WL )
The major spots of AR12785-6 are easily viewed. The penumbral " tail " of the big one of AR12786 has became thinner and more tattered. The umbra on the eastern end appears to be disintegrating. I still see small spots to it's immediate southeast and two others further out to the SE but more eastward than the others. The spot of AR12785 appears unchanged and is holding together nicely. I can faintly see some faculae in the vicinity of AR12785.

I can see one large spot easily in AR12790. It shows the classic umbra-penumbra form. I see two tiny spots nearby. It's faculae are easily seen.

Granulation is not visible.

Carpe Lumen!

James

I’ll be waiting. You always show more than what I can see.
