January 9th Session

Post by MapleRidge »

Hello everyone...

Another sunny day here on Saturday, with a small new active region appearing on the eastern limb and a beautiful fila-prom on the NW.

The first image is the full disk Ha through the LS80T/LS75FHa/B1800Ha and ASI174MM camera, presented in various palattes:

The active regions (filaments, proms, new AR) were imaged with the modded iStar 150mm, f8 OTA/stacked DSII modules/B1800Ha + 3x focal extender:

Mark had suggested trying to run the full disk Ha through the LS80T/LS75FHa double stack and capture with the ASI1600 camera to better utilize it's smaller pixels. I did some test images and have them posted below...first with the ASI174MM, second the ASI1600MM, and last is the ASI1600 with a 2x barlow:

The ASI1600 needs a bit of a cleaning by the looks of the dust spots, but it does make a very nice image. The downfall is the much slower frame rate and larger files to process. I'd like to image with the WL and CaK filters at the same focal length and see how they compare. More tests to come ;)

A great set of images, Brian. I was out yesterday but the seeing was very poor here and nothing came out of the session. I observed those two beautiful vertical prominences in detail.

Nice set of images there, Brian.

The smaller sensor of the ASI1600 is working well there.
