January 14 2021 Observations. Pores!

Post by DeepSolar64 »

Session time is 11:30am until Noon EST local time ( US ). Skies are clear with below average seeing. The temperature is 46F.

Coronado SolarMax II 90 DS. 32x, 44.5x and 50x ( Ha ).
I can see 5 fragments in what was an arc-shaped filament in the SW. I see another filament in the SE that looks to be a loop. At first look I see three there but upon adjusting the tuning a bit I can see they are all connected as one filament. I see two more filaments in the NW.

I can see some small prominences on the SE limb and a nice row of " sticks " on the NW limb. I see a faint detached prom just south of these. I do see a few other faint proms around the disc but nothing significant. I can also see the spicule layer in singlestack at 50x. Poor seeing makes it difficult though.

I see two plages. Both are on the south-central disc. The easternmost one is faint but not difficult in the 90 and I can see a tiny filament in it! The westernmost one is just northeast of those 5 filament fragments mentioned earlier. It too is not hard to see.

The mottles are easy today despite the relatively poor seeing.

Celestron NexStar 102GT w/Altair wedge and 540nm filter. 50x and 83x ( WL )
I can see two pores today! They are located where Ha shows the westernmost of the two visible plages. The southernmost pore is the largest/darkest of the two visible. Otherwise I see no other detail, no faculae etc. The granulation is visible but soft and visible only towards the disc center.

Carpe Diem!

James

Very interesting!! so those areas of plage in Stuart's CaK are new regions which are developing :hamster: CaK always shows plage where a new region will form during the next 2 weeks and can show up plage up to 4 weeks after a region has decayed, it is often difficult to tell the difference, but those regions in Stuart's CaK looked small and tight and very bright indicating more in the way of new. I'm glad to see some spots have occurred. It might be a big one on the next rotation round :hamster:
