15-01-2021 EAST-AR HAS RECEDED, BUT S.E IS LOOKING GOOD

Perhaps unsurprisingly, the Eastern AR has diminished over the last 24-hours and is no longer active.

But the large and approaching S.E. AR is looking promising for it's appearance on Sunday-onwards.

Let's hope that a longer quiet-spell is not in the offing. At least the proms are still occurring for some fab images...

Cheers
Terry

Something is happening now. Check the growing pores/spots near the south central region.

Thanks Mark, Dan, Eric, Alexandra and James.

Indeed Dan at 2000z there are two clear spots in the South Central region as the attached SDO images show and who knows possibly some more from the AIA image. Also note that on the SE beyond the limb, as well on the East and North East areas some prominence and possible AR activity.

Cheers for now
Terry

This is why the sun is great at the start of a solar cycle, spots pop up exactly where you're not expecting them.

Ah but we did predict that dipole on the 12th January, we could see a bright area of plage on Stuart's CaK and I commented that this could become the next big spot group :)
