A very short session - Jan 20th

Post by MapleRidge »

Good day everyone...

We have had pretty much steady cloud cover the past 10 days or more, and I was looking forward to the clear morning that was forecast today. This was a more typical winter day for a change...air temp was ion the -13C range while imaging ;) It started off well enough, but an online conference dragged on all morning and I wasn't able to get to the scope until 11:30 or so. I started with the LS80T solar scope and the views were very nice with the new AR, and numerous filaments.

I started with the full disk images, but the afternoon clouds came in early and had me shut down by noon. These images are through the LS80T/LS75FHa/B1800Ha solar scope. The first image was captured with the ASI174MM camera and is a composite of separate limb and disk images, with the limb inverted:
Full-Ha_01202021.jpg
Full-Ha_01202021.jpg (288.43 KiB) Viewed 359 times
I was planning to do more trials with the ASI1600MM, starting with a 1.6X Antares barlow...shown below:

LS80T_LS75FHa_12_00_14B-ASI.jpg (1.07 MiB) Viewed 359 times
I'm surprised this turned out at all, as the cloud was constantly blowing through and I was manually adjusting the exposure to try and keep a steady image brightness. Parts of the capture were almost completely blocked by cloud :? I still need to get the chip cleaned...forgot about the dust specs after the last session.

Looks like the clouds are back until the weekend.

Brian

Well done Brian, sounds like everyone is having difficulties with imaging and the weather at the moment, it shows how dedicated we are :)

That's a great image Brian, thanks for sharing. It's good to see some solar images, nothing but clouds here in Brisbane.

Very good winter results, Brian. Hope to catch the new AR this weekend, if conditions allow.

Brian:
Very good images, nice to see that even with passing clouds we are able to get good results.
Best wishes and keep well.

Thanks Eric :bow

I was surprised the stacked image came out at all with the variable cloud and uneven exposures during capture.
