Tinkering with Calcium Corrector
20Jan21. It was another cloudy day. I am very glad to see the sun.
Previously I had some decent images with the Calcium corrector placed in front of the skybender where the chroma filters are housed. On 20 Jan, I placed the corrector after the Chroma filters, in the nose holder of the camera. I was trying to find out the degree of improvement in the image by placing the corrector after the filters.
Here are the catch of the day:
The left active region of AR2797 was emitting "C" flares when this image was taken. The AR split into 2 ARs after emitting several C-class flares
Here is a look at the surrounding area:
As the images were taken with thin clouds masking the Sun, I was not able to make any conclusion. Will continue testing.....

Great images Alfred
If you imaged through that cloud it is really impressive that you got anything at all !!!

Re: Tinkering with Calcium Corrector
Alfred, super shots in spite of clouds, one has to try in those conditions and it pays off.
Best regards,
Eric.

Re: Tinkering with Calcium Corrector
Alfred, the results are excellent and the calcium corrector clearly works (well done Apollo!). You just need the seeing to utilise the aperture.

Re: Tinkering with Calcium Corrector
Successful Tinkering, Alfred. Looking extremely promising for when the conditions improve.

Re: Tinkering with Calcium Corrector
Hi Alexandra,
I have been able to use the ARIES D-ERF at its full aperture since having the Calcium corrector.
I am trying different placing of the corrector and filters to see if there is an optimal configuration. While the poor and unstable seeing makes it hard to draw any conclusion, it provides opportunity for focus practice and knowing the setup.
I will do a re-collimation of my C11 later. Have you collimated your C11 using that that nice modified Tri-Bahtinov mask?

Re: Tinkering with Calcium Corrector
I definitely want a Calcium corrector from Apollo now, I must contact him to ask this weekend.
No, I haven't tried the collimation yet, it is far too cold for me to venture outside in the dark with a telescope at the moment. I need some warmer days in Feb/March before I can pluck up the courage. We have snow on the ground at the moment and my fingers and toes freeze and I prefer the warmth of the fire instead

Re: Tinkering with Calcium Corrector
If the resolution of the scope is greater than the resolution the seeing allows you will never get a sharp focus, no amount of collimation will change it.
