January 28th Session

Post by MapleRidge »

Good day everyone...

I had a clear, cold sunny day on Thursday and made a trip to the backyard observatory to do some imaging. The temperature was around -13C during the session, but being out of the wind wasn't too uncomfortable. I was rushed to grab the images before going back to work, and had numerous issues that caused grief after moving the solar equipment back into the dome. I think I have the cabling and mount drive issues foxed up now, but will know better the next imaging session ;)

The first image is the full disk Ha through the LS80T/LS75FHa/B1800Ha and ASI174MM...tuning was off which caused the uneven disk:

The cold air was coupled with poor seeing, so I limited the the DS modded iStar OTA to prime focus with the ASI174MM to try to minimize the seeing effects. There were several filaments and proms and two names AR's on the disk. There was a third region of activity in the northern disk as well. The first is AR2797 n the SW limb with a large disturbed area and several filaments:

On the NW quadrant was AR2800, and the un-named region was to the east of it:

The proms were very impressive, especially the large group on the eastern limb:

Saturday is to be clear (but no warmer, LOL), so I hope to get a chance to confirm that everything is setup and configured properly.

Take care everyone,
Brian

Yes indeed some more captures of the proms Brian that you have done so excellently...

Even with a lack of Sun-spots, both yourself and Nigella have shown that both the proms and your surface detail images show that the Sun maybe having a bit of a nap, but still lots to see, image and share with us.

Thanks vm
Terry

Thanks for the comments guys...always appreciated :bow

I have to get caught up on posts the past few days. Funeral today for my wife's grandfather who passed away earlier in the week. A scaled back affair as a result of COVID, but he made it to 105!

Eric and Alexandra...

Thanks for your comments on the session :bow

Alexandra, Yes 105 is not a common age to reach but the best part was that he was still living at home, had decent mobility and still had his wits about him.
