As of June 2020, NASA’s Solar Dynamics Observatory — SDO — has now been watching the Sun non-stop for over a full decade. From its orbit in space around the Earth, SDO has gathered 425 million high-resolution images of the Sun, amassing 20 million gigabytes of data over the past 10 years. This information has enabled countless new discoveries about the workings of our closest star and how it influences the solar system.

An international team of researchers led by ETH Zurich has reconstructed solar activity back to the year 969 using measurements of radioactive carbon in tree rings. Those results help scientists to better understand the dynamics of the sun and allow more precise dating of organic materials using the C14 method.

The first certainly and clearly shows Solar-Minimum through 2020, as well as the other levels of Maximum etc.

If they haven't done so already, someone should run a Fourier Transform analysis on the data to see if regular cycles with different periods can be picked out. There should be the 11 year cycle, of course, and others...... We should get Peter Z on the case.

I enjoyed these Pedro. Time lapse imaging really shows how dynamic the sun really is. I am so glad that NASA and the SDO team make the data available to the public.
