Solar Discs | CaK & 395nm | Jan 31rst 2021

Post by MalVeauX »

Heya,

Pretty blank disc today! Just a few filaments and a single prom. So, focused on just testing a new approach to a full disc in shorter wavelengths using angular resolution. I'm using 3D printed masks (thanks Dave for the masks!!) to make a 60mm F16.67 long refractor for the very long focal-ratio to put it through the narrowband filters. In this case, a Lunt CaK 2.4A filter and an Altair 395nm 70A filter. Testing results on an IMX253 sensor (3.45um pixels, 1.1" sensor size for easy full discs). Seeing was decent, not great, very, very windy today, but it's the first clear morning I've had in a long time with all this nasty rain. Seeing was sub-arc to 2" back and forth with the wind. Graph provided.

Very nice Marty! The 395nm images turned out well. The resolution looks good. Granulation is easily seen and a couple of pores are visible in the full sized image. Pretty darn good to be stopped down to 60mm!!

Nice CaK ones too!
