A few from February 3rd

Post by MapleRidge »

Good day everyone...

I had a short session over lunch on Wednesday to grab some images, and with the limited detail I took all the images through the double stacked LS80T/LS75FHa/B1800 solar scope with the ASI174MM camera.

The full disk shows a few filaments and small proms, as well as some small regions of limited activity:

I was limited for time so I only added the 3x Explore Scientific Focal Extender to the scope to get some higher resolution images. I figured the lack of detailed structures made this scope a decent choice and time saver:

Although the weather had warmed up compared to the last session, seeing was still very poor which was the ultimate factor to stick with the 80mm scope. The prom images did not turn out so they didn't make the cut ;)

That is all for now.

You definitely made the most of the limited activity (and conditions), Brian. Looks good.

Nice images Brian! It is very quiet at the moment, but, it will pick up with time.

As usual I am 'hoping' for some clear skies today. Was up early this morning and half an ago was stood on the doorstep with a coffee taking a look at the stars and there's not a cloud in the sky, just took another peek and it's totally foggy, so, who knows what it will do! Gonna be another 6 hours before the sun has risen and cleared the trees and i'm able to observe around lunchtime - a lot can happen in that time

Thanks, Brian. Again, great images. Absolutely pouring down here. It feels like a long, long time since my last solar session.

Mark and Stuart, thanks for your comments :bow

Rain and fog do not sound promising, but as you say Mark, a lot can happen.

I'm surprised it has cleared here but there is strong and wind blowing snow, which makes it a lost cause to open the observatory.
