10-2-2021 STEREO LATEST

Post by EGRAY_OBSERVATORY »

It looks as if there might be another AR in the offing in the S.E., for around 3+ days ahead.

Some excellent proms are available today...

The bland Southern AR is not clearly showing any spots - this morning, but that might change anytime...

Cheers
Terry

Hi Terry...

More potential AR's are always welcome.

The new region has yet to get a NOAA number, but it doesn't look to have grown much either.

Thanks Brian and any spots that have been seen have simply come and gone and even over that again.

I doubt whether AR2802 can be affixed to this AR at present until a significant spot remains for a while...

It is an interesting subject though and I suspect that if the STEREO-B satellite had been operational, the history of this AR would have been better known whilst still on the other-side, where I suspect it had been far-more active.-

Cheers
Terry

The latest image from SDO this afternoon (Wednesday), fairly-certainly shows that the Southern AR is decaying quite fast, so chances of any spots seems now to be diminishing too...

Back to a "spotless Sun" for now at least...

Agreed Jochen - "Patience is a Virtue" or something like that...

ps We in S.E.England are getting your freezing-weather as -10-degsC tonight, so thanks for that, cus I can turn-off my Deep-Freezer after putting the contents outside. How green is that ???

SDO showed a couple of tiny pores in the small SE AR a couple of hours ago. I got two small pores visually at 110x using my 4” Celestron refractor.

Thanks Terry!

It's not been designated as an 'active region' yet as, well, it isn't active...

Hopefully that will change!

Thanks James and Mark, my designation of an Active Region is an area of different-activity compared to its' surrounding area and if an identifying number is added by whoever/whenever, that is another matter .. .. .. .. .. .. .. ..

But then what do I know...???

What I can see though is that there is something building-up towards the S.E.Limb, as well as some nice proms again which hopefully will last till daylight wherever and of course not enough to worry about numbering that AR in any case - at present !!!

Besides that cold weather coming-in from Belgium etc., at 0100z is even making my brain-box slow-down...

Cheers
Terry
