Full disks in Ha and CaK 10th Feb 2021

Post by Carbon60 »

A beautiful morning here (for a change) and a couple of FDs in Ha and Ca II K.

First up is the Ca II K disk in mono using my Tecnosky 125 with a Lunt B1800 module/K-Line and Omega filter stack.
Basler acA2440-75um camera
4-Pane mosaic at native focal length.

and in colour....

For the Ha disks I revisited my DS Lunt 60 THa but substituted the standard B1200 blocking filter with my Coronado BF15. What a difference..... The image is by far the flattest achieved with this scope in recent times. I'm now wondering about the quality of the regular Lunt BF. This was replaced a little over 12 months ago. Do I get another new one from Lunt and hope for the best? Should I get another Coronado BF15 (the one I used is a stripped back version for my 150mm/Lunt 35 scope and I'd prefer to have one dedicated to the Lunt 60? Decisions.

Anyhow, back to the images. This is a heavily overlapping 6-pane mosaic captured on my Basler acA1920-155um camera with a 2.5x Powermate.

It's a pity the Sun is again so relatively quiet.

Thanks for looking.

Stu.

Very nice Stuart! I especially love the CaK ones since I don't have that capability yet.

Thanks Stu and for the interesting comment about the BF1200 change results.
I have the same scope and BF, so will hopefully see that it will do a decent job when I open the observatory shortly.

I wonder whether to speak to Lunt about your BF to see if they can advise if it can be tested and/or repaired/exchanged ??

Cheers
Terry

Excellent disks there, Stu.

Bit odd that there would be so much difference between those BF's indeed. As Terry already mentioned; maybe not a bad idea to contact Lunt and see what they say.

Nice disks Stu. I've always preferred the Coronado blockers over the Lunts for the same reasons you say above, hence why I sold all my Lunt blockers.

Many thanks, everyone. It was nice to get out on the scopes after a string of bad weather days.

Interesting comment, Mark, about the two BF brands. I’ll strip out the Lunt BF from its housing to see if there’s anything obviously wrong, such as deposits on the surface. Other than that I might permanently substitute the Lunt BF with a Coronado one.

Cheers.

Stu.
