Sun in H-Alpha 14th of February 2021

Post by arnedanielsen »

Todays image of the Sun from my Northern location. According to the weather-forecast this will be my last solar-image for at least one week ☹
Sun_115046_Ha_20210214_ZWO ASI178MM_lapl5_ap3375_Sharpened_Contrast.jpg
Sun_115046_Ha_20210214_ZWO ASI178MM_lapl5_ap3375_Sharpened_Contrast.jpg (1.94 MiB) Viewed 357 times
Equipment used for this image was a Coronado SolarMax 60 II w/BF15 filter, Baader 35nm H-Alpha filter and ASI ZWO 178MM camera. Everything mounted on a Sky-Watcher SolarQuest mount.
Stack of the best 60% (1650 of 2751) images captured with an exposure time of 28ms, gain 130 and 30fps. Stacking done in Autostakkert 3, sharpening in AstraImage and contrast stretching in Adobe PhotoShop.

Best regards,
Arne

Hi Arne...

Your image is quite good, nice and sharply focused too!

I wonder if the tuning could be adjusted a bit...I'd expect to have more of the limited disk features captured, but maybe thsi is what the single stack can give.

Thanks Arne for your capture - showing some proms and not a lot on the disk.

Cheers

Hi Arne,

That is a nice looking full disk!

The weather forecast for the week over here in Singapore is cloudy every day, except Sunday when rain is expected. I don't usually rely on the forecast. Most of my images are captured in cloudy and raining forecast :D

Thank you all for your comments.

Brian: Both the camera and scope is quite new to me and I haven’t had the time to play to much with finetuning it. I will have to look more into that when the Sun gets higher and the temperatures a bit more pleasant. Even as a Norwegian I try to keep my imaging sessions short when the temperatures are -10 to -15C 😊

Best regards,
Arne
