February 20 2021 Observations. More images!
Session time is 11:00am until 12:45pm EST local time ( US ). The skies are clear with poor seeing. The temperature is 39F.
Coronado SolarMax II 90 DS. 32x and 44.5x ( Ha )
The first think I notice after a little tweaking of the etalons is a filament in the SW near the limb. Also noticed three filaments in the SE near the limb as well. I also noticed a tiny filament within a small plage ( AR12803 ) in the NE and could also make out a tiny filament above it.
The stars of the day are two prominences on the NE limb. The southernmost one is large and easy though fine detail comes difficult with the seeing. The northernmost one is a detached wisp leaning southward and is a bit fainter than it's southern neighbor.
Celestron NexStar 102GT w/Altair wedge and 540nm filter. 50x ( WL )
I can make out two pores in AR12803 in the NE. The SDO continuum image shows three. I can also see the faculae containing them as well. I see no other detail on the solar disc in WL. I can't even make out the granulation in this seeing!
I have included a couple of captures from my ZWO camera. The proms picked up well but I could only barely get a filament on the disc. I seem to have more trouble focusing and tuning using the camera than with the eye.
Seize the Sun!
James

Hi James,
Your capture 00008 & 9, are much better than the previous post.
Try sharpening a little for 9 as that is a probability for improvement.
I like the colouring of both and the proms is well-good and certainly as good, if not better than the Gong image. You might choose to flip the 9 image
to match the Gong image, but no probs there...
I'm following the spots situation on AR2803, as there does seem to be a third spot.
Thanks for the info and efforts.
Terry

Thanks Terry. I am glad that they are detailed enough for you to tell my orientation is off a bit. The proms are flipped correct but need to be rotated up a bit I think.
I'll get there. I hope.

Yes James I should have correctly said "rotated" so we both now know - thanks.

Re: February 20 2021 Observations. More images!
A lovely report James and great to see the images progressing, the prom image is great the surface still needs a bit of work, I'm guessing this is single stack? a double stack is dimmer but much easier to pick out contrast and focus.

Re: February 20 2021 Observations. More images!
Congrats on the SPOD James.
Terrific start to your imaging..
I had a bit of a first light today, with the ETX-125 and an Orion Glass WL filter, as well as a Lunt HW.. Success from the visual-side, so I have little doubt that to do the imaging-side with the R2, should be successful.
I achieve a successful (preferably with some spots in WL), I can work-out the measurements required for the mini-observatory for this set-up...

Re: February 20 2021 Observations. More images!
Justapictureposter,
I'll have to photograph the BF for you and see what you think. I don't think it's the BF though. Looking at it I see no sign of discoloration and the filter is less than a year old. On the bright side I have two Coronado scopes so I have two blocking filters. One thing I have been battling lately is terrible seeing!
Alexandra,
I think the surface image was in single stack. I seem to have more trouble focusing on the disc than on the prominences. I try to tune visually before using the camera but if I try to adjust the tuning with the camera in I have difficulties.
Terry,
I am glad you got to observe today. I just now realized that I had the SPOD. Thank you!
James

All,
I feel like Zefram Cochrane ( Star Trek ) when he invented the warp drive for Earth. The planet then was able to join the interstellar community and experience " first contact ".
The ZWO drive lets me formally join the SolarChat imaging community!
