Last year I purchased the LUNT LS80MT with the SFPT Double Stack and B1800 Blocking filter. The nice thing about this scope is that it modular, meaning that the LS80MT and LS100MT share the same components. I contacted Lunt and I have the option to pick up a Lunt 100mm MT Refractor for $2200 so that I would essentially have a second solar scope for about 1/3 the price of the LS80MT package. The Lunt 80mm refractor is a 560 Focal Length f/7 scope. The Lunt 100mm refractor is a 714 Focal Length f/7 scope. My question is would it be worth having both an 80mm and 100mm scope or are they somewhat redundant? Are there advantages of having a 100mm OTA vs. a 80mm OTA with a 2.5x Powermate? I already have the 2.5x Powermate. I am still relatively new to Solar imaging so not sure the advantage of having a larger OTA. I would really appreciate some knowledgeable feedback to help me decide if adding the 100mm OTA to my solar arsenal would be a worth the additional investment.
Note: The interchangeable double stack is only available for the 80 and 100mm OTAs. The larger 130mm Lunt OTA uses different components.
Thank you in advance for the helpful advice.

Hi Andrew,
The only difference is the extra resolution of the 100mm.

Hi justapic.
Thank you for the feedback. I am not familiar with a solar spectrum filter. What is the advantage of having a solar spectrum filter on a double stack solar scope?
Thanks for the education.

Re: LUNT LS80MT with 100mm OTA Addon
Hi Mark.
The reason I picked the 80mm in the first place is because it was suppose to "be best for average seeing". How good does the seeing need to be in order to use a 100mm solar scope? I realize this is a difficult question to answer as there are a lot of factors that play into this, but if you had to choose between and 80mm and an 100mm scope, which one would you pick on a day with average seeing?

Re: LUNT LS80MT with 100mm OTA Addon
Hi Andrew...
I have the full solar version of the original LS80T, and if I had the option I'd go for the 100mm. Just my opinion..others will have other thoughts as well.
The 100mm will give more resolution as Mark mentioned. If you want to do full disk imaging this might make a choice of camera with a large enough sensor the thing to watch out for, but overall I'd prefer the larger aperture.

I am also interested to learn more about solar spectrum filters. Can they be utilized to double stack a solar scope?

Sorry to butt in,
I believe that such a generic name might be misleading
In this context Solar Spectrum is a manufacturer's name
https://solarspectrumopticalfilters.com/
They produce solid etalons.
