March 6 2021 Observations

Post by DeepSolar64 »

Session time is 11:45am until 12:22pm EST local time ( US ). The skies are mostly cloudy with high cirrostratus clouds. The seeing is below average. The temperature is 48F.

Coronado SolarMax II 60 DS. 16x and 21.5x ( Ha )
The two active region plages, AR12806 and AR12806 are easy to see. AR12806 shows a small filament within the plage. AR12806 is approaching the SW limb with AR12807 just over the central longitudinal meridian heading west. A close look also shows a small plage in the NE quadrant near the limb. It was this area that was spewing off plasma eruptions yesterday.

I can see a few filaments outside of the aforementioned filament in AR12806. Two faint ones in the SW and a couple more small faint ones in the SE. I can also see a much bigger diffuse filament in the far north just west of the pole.

I can see most of the prominences shown on the GONG image. The multiple feathery proms on the SE limb are easy. There is one on the SW limb that is easy too. I can also see some small faint ones on the NE and NW limb.

The mottles are visible without difficulty. I just wish I could get the tuning of the 60 and illumination as uniform across the disc as I can get it in the 90.

Orion 70mm Solar Telescope. 25x ( WL )
I can see a lightly shaded spot that is associated with AR12807 just west of the CLM in the south. SDO shows this to be a tight cluster of tiny pores. I can faintly see the faculae associated with AR12806 in the SW. I can also see the small facular component to the plage located in the NE as seen in Ha. I cannot see the granulation at all.

Carpe Lumen!

James

Thanks for the report James! We had clouds all day Saturday unfortunately, it never broke. The are 'cracks' in the cloud this morning but it's going to have to break up a bit more yet before I think about setting up.

I hope you found your breaks in the clouds today.

My weather was nice and clear but it came with poor seeing and windy weather. It's really hard to image under these conditions! I was actually worried about the wind blowing my shrouded computer off the table!!
