April 2 2021 Observations. Calm Sun.
Session time is 11:41am until 12:10pm EDT local time ( US ). Clear skies with just below average seeing. The temperature is 36F.
Coronado SolarMax II 60 DS. 16x and 21.5x ( Ha ).
I struggled a bit to see any details on the disc at all today. The only thing I could easily see is the filaprom on the southwest limb, I finally teased 4 other filaments out of the mottles in the SW and two in the far NE. The plage of AR12812 is visible very near the NW limb.
The mottles are really soft today and cover the solar disc. GONG Cerro Tololo far outperformed the view I had today.
Orion 70mm Solar Telescope. 25x and 41.5x ( WL )
I can easily see the faculae to AR12812 very near the NW limb. I see no spots or pores anywhere on the disc. Surprisingly I can see the very fine granulation of the photosphere.
Have a Good Friday!
James

Re: April 2 2021 Observations. Calm Sun.
Yes a calmer Sun than of late, but still active enough to keep us interested.
I did try for some imaging later today, but couldn't start the observatory-computer initialising - so another chore to overcome with a little help from my supplier...
Thanks
Terry

Terry,
I had issues today too. It's as if I couldn't get my SMII 60 completely in tune or in focus. What details were there were hard to see.
Your computer wouldn't start?

Re: April 2 2021 Observations. Calm Sun.
Oooh Aaah ! James.
Sound like the "dready lurgy" is affecting both of us. Hope you got/get yours sorted.
Mine is when switching the computer (not a laptop) on, all I get lights flashing on the computer, keyboard and monitors every 5-seconds for one flash.
Turning the classic-music off, I could hear the internal Disk-drive trying to start for a second (when those lights flash), then nothing else for many minutes.
Does sound like a disk-drive failure or something-else.
So will tomorrow unplug everything not required and try again.
My supplier has no doubt been away today "Good Friday", so have left a message on his answerphone at his work-place.
This H.P., computer has all the possible plugs and CD-Drive that one can imagine including 4xUSB-3's & 4xUSB-2's, saving lots of messing around, so hope it can be sorted or will sorted itself out...
I do have the alternative of re-trying the original laptop (which itself had/has a USB - plugging-in/out diarrhoea-problem/noise for no obvious reason and which might affect imaging down-loads. I would then have to transfer the captures to this machine (indoors) for processing etc., but not ideal...
I might even try and see if the old/reliable XP laptop will do the honours, as don't intend to keep on taking this Win-8.1 laptop out there...
Oh well PROBLEMS PROBLEMS - whatever next??
Cheers
Terry

Terry,
Will it boot at all? It could be the drive but it also could be a damaged boot sector. Have you tried booting it in safe mode?

Re: April 2 2021 Observations. Calm Sun.
Thank you Mark and James.
Can't get to the opening-stages/boot-up, to try in safe-mode as yet, so in a moment will unplug all external devices excluding mice and keyboard to see if that has a cause.
As you say could be the boot-sector and/or drive...
Will let you know if and when success...

Re: April 2 2021 Observations. Calm Sun.
Ok James and Mark.
The update with regards the H.P. computer (not laptop) is that it is u/s as possibly - in agreement what James said about the "Boot-up" sector.
After unplugging all unnecessary peripherals, the computer fire-up once, but cleared-down on it's own.
So it has to go back to the supplier, but not before the 12th April for obvious reasons.
+++
So I am now typing this from the observatory using the slow/small screen rubbish (Win-10 converted from Vista) laptop, where even it's graphics output to the large screens is u/s. At the moment not heard the Diarrhea type noises - appearing to be USB connect/disconnect noises, so that's good, but other sillies with this machine are different from when I last used it... That's no doubt Win-10 for you...
I've just spoken too soon, as those silly USB type noises have started again every two or three seconds... I suspect I know what's causing that, as the only right-hand USB socket for this remote keyboard (I can't use a laptop keyboard in any case) so will possibly open it up and check for USB-socket to PCB or lead/plug inside...
I will see what happens next when plugging-in the three camera's USB-3 connection...
That's the latest for now...
At least it's total cloud-cover here today and in any case a blank Solar-disk and not much proms activity via SDO earlier...
Cheers
Terry
