90mm fun

Post by AndiesHandyHandies »

Hi

Away with the 90mm F6.7.

Tried the PST mod in it with 8mm Clave' to give same image scale as 3x Barlow with Quark Prom. Larger prom fuzzy I am afraid. Cheap CPL the culprit?

Went to the 3x Revelation Barlow and Quark Prom with 25mm Clave'. Breezy and observing over bungalows.

The larger prom visible but some background light.

Added in the off-axis 10mm adaptor RodAstro made for me to use undamaged bit of mica. Black background now.
Also tuned up the baffles on the Baader 35nm/Belpoptik on the front of the diagonal and on the Clave'.
Used some neoprene seals from a Lidl/Aldi bargain box in my 20mm stripped out cheap Chinese filter holders to stop them down to 18mm, the image size with this set up.

So super-symmetric 18mm baffles before and after the 6mm baffle on the front of the 3x Barlow with Black3 180 emery in the 10mm off-axis hole produced a nice black background. Promising for trying imaging when I get home.

The double large prom looked nice and sharp with a little spike below. I could only see a pair of thin jets at the bottom otherwise.

Cheers. Andrew.

Interesting reading about your use of baffles Andrew.

Hi

Sundays addendum.

Set up for children in partner to have a look at a prom.

Took a ruler and calculator out today to be a bit more scientific.

Yesterday I was just using visual to assess baffle efficiency.

Worked out the cone at the front Baader 35nm is 18.5mm so add on 6mm for image size thats 25mm near enough.

Actually the image is 6mm at the 3x Barlow entrance and the stop is 8mm.

The clarity was better today.

I have a short 1.25" extender on the front of the BL 48mm to 28.5mm adapter as a baffle tube. It conveniently has a 25mm step inside for the back threading. Removing the 20mm filter baffle and adding back the centred image was brighter at 25mm.

Also I removed the 18mm stop on the front of the eyepiece.

So extra baffling my help when the seeing is not optimum.

Cheers. Andrew.
