Sun in Ha and CaK 7th April 2021

Post by Carbon60 »

A couple of disks in Ha and CaK showing the Sun as of 7th April 2021. The seeing conditions were better than in recent days, but closer views were again made quite a challenge with lots of fine scale shimmering. I made one image in Ha of a small magnetically disturbed region. Other attempts just ended up blurred and in the bin.

First up is the disk in Ca II K presented in mono and colour formats.

...and then over to Hydrogen Alpha, triple stacked on a Lunt 60. There's a bit of 'blooming' on the left which I failed to spot during capture, but adjusting the background to remove this takes away the proms, so I've left well alone.

Here's the closer view of the small region captured on my 150mm/DS Lunt 35 mod.

I did try to image the main prom on display, but that just ended up a blurred mess under the seeing conditions at my location today.

Thanks for looking.

Stu.

Many thanks, Alexandra. The new Lunt front etalon has certainly made a huge difference, especially in combination with the Coronado BF. Triple stacking gets close to optimal narrow bandwidth to meet my requirements for a much more even disk, including both surface and prom details in one take. :)

Great images, Stu. Side reflections are an annoying problem with most filters, better to leave them, however, than sacrifice the detail.
