It's tricky shooting through a hazy sky, even the flats turned out horrible and levels where jumping all over the place causing stacking errors galore. One saving grace was seeing was great. The odd bit of wind but the edge of the sun was just still as can be.

They came out well Simon. You should use the auto gain function in firecapture to stop problems with variable transparency, it works wonders.

Very impressive Ha images, Simon!
Would you be so kind to point which telescope and filter did you use for these nice shoots?
Ivan.

I actually use SharpCap over FireCap. For whatever reason, i get better results. The only thing i dont like about auto gain in general, is on 174mm, if the gain goes past 120, the image becomes too noisy and if im really unlucky, the horizontal banding is really obvious. Im still looking at various sensors that could replace the aging IMX174 chip but nothing seems to perform like it.

It's the Esprit 100 and a Daystar Gemini in Prom mode. Except for the last 2 images that are in Chrom mode.

Ahhh fair enough, auto gain is something I use all the time - variable transparency is the norm for me more often than not...Simon2940 wrote: ↑Mon Apr 12, 2021 7:46 pm I actually use SharpCap over FireCap. Southern California sun is relentless. Your a crispy duck within 15mins standing outside. I dont think they make a UVA UVB block big enough for me to hide behind!marktownley wrote: ↑Mon Apr 12, 2021 7:54 pmAhhh fair enough, auto gain is something I use all the time - variable transparency is the norm for me more often than not...Simon2940 wrote: ↑Mon Apr 12, 2021 7:46 pm I actually use SharpCap over FireCap.
