Calcium Sun 12th April

Post by marktownley »

Had a busy day today with one thing or another so didn't get to image until 5pm, by which there were cloud streamers rolling by and the seeing was boiling in the blue gaps. So, got to check out my aperture masks, and settled on 50mm as 60mm wasn't behaving and 40mm had a bit more to give... First off the full disk, 50mm f20:

The disk was pretty blank all apart from the active region which NASA seems to have been keen to ignore the existence of, maybe because the SDO was down and they weren't prepared to commit to? Either way it is more active than yesterday. I imaged again at 50mm but this time at f40 with the IMX174 camera. Resolution is obviously limited but you get a flavour for what is going on and the spots that form part of it.

Only a quick session but nice to see what is going on. Off on the boat tomorrow for a few days, and with clear skies forecast the travelling kit is going with me, hopefully the weather forecast is right and I get some views in.

Hope you like!

Mark

Thanks Dan, thanks Terry. Seeing and transparency are supposed to be half decent first thing, so departure for cruising is delayed until mid morning to see if I can get some shots in with the big gun prior to leaving...

Mark,
You do absolutely wonderful CaK images! While I do like your close in shots it's your full discs that I like the best. They usually show nice detail often including the spicule layer and proms. BIG thumbs up!!!

Have fun while out on the water. I hope you have internet service so you can post your images. Do you ever fish? I could not get out on the water without taking my fishing tackle.

Are you taking the furries ( cats ) with you? :cat

Be safe and have fun.

James

Excellent images, Mark, as usual.
Enjoy your time on the canal. Hopefully the weather will hold both for imaging and relaxing outdoors with a few beers.
