April 16 2021 Observations

Post by DeepSolar64 »

Session time 10:55am until 11:40am EDT local time ( US ). The skies are mostly overcast with a high thin veil of clouds. The seeing is noticeably rough. The temperature is 52F.

Coronado SolarMax II 60 DS. 16x and 21.5x ( Ha )
I can see 5 plage areas on the solar disc! The plage of AR12814 in the SW with another bright one to it's east. The SE has two. One very near the limb which has a small filament to it's SSW and another plage which is visible to it's SW. I see the fifth plage in the NE with a group of filaments to it's north and northeast near the limb. These filaments are easy to see.

I can see 4 prominences on the limb. Two small ones in the SE with the bright southernmost one curving north. A faint one on the NE limb and another brighter one on the NW limb.

The mottles are easily seen with good contrast covering the disc anywhere a plage is absent.

Orion 70mm Solar Telescope. 25x and 50x ( WL )
Today I find spots/pores harder to see than I did yesterday. The smattering of pores in AR12814 was totally invisible at 25x only coming into view at 50x. I see a single spot in the area of the plage seen in Ha to it's east at 25x but 50x reveals a tiny pore to the east of the spot. I thought I may have glimpsed a third but I never could be sure of it. The AR near the SE limb shows three easy spots among bright faculae. I cannot see the granulation at all today.

All while listening to Constance Demby. Sunborne album.

Carpe Diem!

James

Thanks James for the report, I always love reading them. Managed an imaging session today with that lovely new AR on the South Eastern limb. Thanks for sharing.

Thanks James and I see that we now have AR2814, AR2815 and AR2816 in the South.

Getting better.
