April 16th 2021 - The Sun in White Light

Post by Simon2940 »

Seeing was good enough at varying moments to get some awesome white light images with a Herschel Wedge from Lunt. I used the the Esprit 150 and went with the 5x Powermate and waiting patiently to capture the data.

The 3rd set of images turned out exceptional where there are no features, but the crackling was just clear and crisp.

Very nice resolution Simon. I am impressed on how well the granulation can be seen in your images. The spots and pores show significant detail too. It's amazing on how small some of those pores really are. Granule-sized!

They seem small, but they arent small. Amazing to think that some of these spots are the size of entire countries.

So true that is. Even the granules are between the size of Texas and Alaska and they are the smallest things we can see in our scopes on the Sun. 1" to 2" in size for something 400-800 miles across. Even something " little " on the Sun is huge by earthly standards. It's easy to forget that.

More power to your elbow Simon. It is years since I did any white light imaging.
The hobby has moved on so much, fantastic results.
Best wishes,
David
