Yet more sunshine..... 16th April 2021

Post by Carbon60 »

We've been very lucky in many parts of the UK with a run of great weather over the past week or so. This morning I managed a few images in Ha and Ca II K at various image scales including some closer views of the main active regions in both lights.

I'll let the images speak for themselves (it's late and I'm tired after a day of decorating, such is the price for an hour or two of imaging).

Ca II K FDs on a 72mm f6 refractor (Lunt B1800 module).

....and some closer views on a Tecnosky 125. The main active region (AR12814) was really quite bright in comparison to the main disk and it ended up a little over exposed.

Over to the red end on a Lunt 60 (TS).

....and again some closer views of the main event and the new AR, captured on my 150mm/Lunt 35 mod.

First up is the newest active region just in view on the eastern limb.

...and the other active regions...
I forgot to orientate these correctly. Doh....

Finally a solo view of the main active region (AR12814)

As always, thanks for looking.

Great Imaging Stu, It's good to see the UK getting some good viewing weather.

Terrific images, Stu.
I envy you your weather. We just emerged from a big snow dump several days ago and more snow on the way tomorrow ☹️
I’m champing at the bit to get some imaging done.
Cheers.

Fabulous detail Stu, and beautiful images. Very productive session, the seeing looks like it
was a bit better in your kneck of the woods.
I am glad I am not the only one that has to do a bit of penance after
getting time off for some imaging. I am being "encouraged" to get the strimmer out.
Best wishes,
David

WoW Stuart! Your images have really nice resolution, especially in the light of CaK!!

What 72mm f6 refractor are you using? I have a an Astro-Tech scope of that size and fl. It will probably be the one I use for CaK when I get the filter.

Hi James,

I use an Altair Astro Lightwave for FDs. It isn’t anything special. I bought it for the 2017 US eclipse because it’s light and isn’t too expensive for travel. My only complaint is that the focuser is a bit weak (drifts out of focus with the weight of the module and camera) and I have to keep tightening the thumbscrew to lock it in position. There’s also a bit of slop in the focus back and forth.

It works, but there are better solutions.

For close views I use a Tecnosky 125 (Tecnosky 125/975 F7.8 FPL-53 ED Doublet APO Refractor Telescope).

Hope this helps.

Stu.

Your Astro Lightwave refractor sounds a lot like my 70mm Orion WL solar refractor. It isn't the best with the focuser being it's weakest point but it works and didn't break the bank. It too is light and portable.
