Good day everyone...
I have been lurking in the wings the past few weeks, with the wind down of maple syrup making and an early start to farm operations I have not had a lot of time to post on a regular basis. Great images form everyone...well done and thanks for sharing I did have clear skies on Sunday with above average seeing, so I had time and solar targets to make use of all the wavelengths I have filter for.
The first images are the full disk series. First the Ha as imaged through the LS80T/LS75FHa/B1800Ha solar scope and ASI174MM camera. This is a composite of separate disk and inverted limb exposures:
The next pair of images were taken with the CR-150 OTA and ASI1600MM camera. The WL used a Lunt solar Wedge and Baader Continuum filter:
and the CaK used a Lunt B1800CaK module and Baader K-Line filter:
While the scope was setup for WL and CaK I added the 3x focal extender to image the active areas in greater detail. AR2816 on the eastern disk was the most impressive, but on the western limb AR2814 still showed a few spots and faculae near the limb:
AR2816 was very impressive in CaK:
The focuser was removed after the WL and CaK images were captured, and the pair of DSII etalons were installed with the front mount ERF to work as a DS Ha system. The 3x focal extender was used with the ASI174MM camera for these images. The first is an image of the eastern disk with AR2816 and a few small filaments:
As you moved around the disk in a clockwise motion, a pair of bright regions were found on the NE limb:
The big chain of filaments in the northern hemisphere were the next to be imaged:
AR2814 still showed some nice details as well as a prom on the nearby limb:
By the time I finished the disk images the skies had started to develop a thin layer of cirrus cloud which made the prom images a lost cause. I kept one image as it showed a nice little tease of something coming around the eastern limb:
I was glad to have the morning open to image as I hadn't been able to get many hi resolution images in WL and CaK for some time. The clouds hung around most of the afternoon and evening, but cleared in time for me to go to work and become overcast again at noon when I got home for lunch Now there is snow in the forecast for the next few days too Maybe I can get some images later in the week.
I hope that you all enjoy these...and questions and comments are always welcome.
Brian

Re: April 18th - Ha/CaK/WL Images
Brian,
That's a nice set of images! Your white light pics certainly out resolve mine today but it looks like your seeing is better and you are using a 150mm scope vs my little 70mm. It's nice when you can see fine details within spots and the individual granules.
That bottom prominence looks to be a surge prom. Maybe from a flare on or just over the limb.

It looks like you had a very good session Brian. All images look great. Certainly the sun is showing good activity at the moment.

James and Franco...
Thanks for your comments on the session...much appreciated
Hopefully the activity doesn't dwindle away like it has been but it is nice to see the current level anyway. I'm not sure but I think the surge prom was in the same line of sight as the new large group of sunspots.
