21-4-2021 LOTS OF ACTION ON AND AROUND SOL

Post by EGRAY_OBSERVATORY »

As with JohnW's excellent-captures from S.E. Australia this morning, including AR2716, AR2717, AR2718
and the latest SDO images, there is much to savour on the surface and with the prominences too.

I wouldn't be at all surprises if more flares and even a CME comes from any of the three AR's today.

Ok Alexandra, I certainly would "rub-in" your need to work, but certainly the way the high-pressure region has settled over the UK, should give us some very clear skies, as is now... Have you got a clear-view in the early evenings for some captures ??

Hi Maurits, yes I see from satellite imagery that you are close to clear-skies - but not quite close-enough for a continuous clear-sky, so wish those pesky fluffs allow you some time for imaging..

BTW another significant-flare/CME from AR2816 - which I half expected was likely as " EARTH-DIRECTED SOLAR FLARE: Sunspot AR2816 has produced another solar flare--this time a C3.8-class eruption on April 22nd (0435 UT). A pulse of X-rays and UV radiation ionized the top of Earth's atmosphere, producing a minor shortwave radio blackout over SouthEast Asia. NASA's Solar Dynamics Observatory recorded a shock-wave rippling away from the blast site; this suggests a CME is heading our way. "
