April 21 2021 Observations

Post by DeepSolar64 »

Session time 11:00am until 11:40am EDT local time ( US ). The skies are mostly clear with poor seeing. The temperature is 51F.

Coronado SolarMax II 60 DS. 16x, 21.5x and 33x ( HA )
The SMII60 shows nearly all the detail that I can see on the GONG image today. Three active regions, AR12817 in the NW, AR12816 in the south-central region and the now numbered AR12818 with it's curved shape in the SE near the limb. As far as filaments go, I can see a long one in the SE that may indeed be a filaprom. I don't quite have the seeing and resolution to tell. I also se a couple of thin long filaments SW of AR12816. I also see three filaments in the far northwest. Two of these are quite dark and easy to see against their mottled background. The seeing almost certainly hampers me from picking smaller filaments out of the mottled background. I can see a nice group of prominences on the SE limb, two which resemble " Firenados "!! I can also see a little puff of a prom in the SW which has lifted off the disc.

The mottles are visible without difficulty.

Orion 70mm Solar Telescope. 25x and 41.5x ( WL )
The seeing is trashing white light badly and I cannot use any higher magnifications. I can see the spots of AR12817 receding in the far NW approaching the limb. I can see the faculae surrounding them. I can see 4 spots associated with AR12816 but seeing makes any detail within even the largest impossible and any really small pores would be invisible. I can see AR12818 in the SE with it's southward trailing faculae and spot. I cannot see any detail in the spot. The granulation is all but invisible today.

Carpe Lumen!

James

Hi James

Excellent images, I see you had poor seeing also, for me it was like wobbly jelly, get a few seconds to capture really had to be on the ball and get the start frame just right.

Many thanks

Rich :bow2

I did surprisingly well in Ha despite the seeing but any real magnification would have been impossible. Thanks guys!
