April 22 2021 Observations

Post by DeepSolar64 »

Session time is 11:08am until 11:32am EDT local time ( US ). The skies are partly cloudy with below average to poor seeing. The temperature is 45F. Breezy.

Coronado SolarMax II 60 DS. 16x, 21.5x and 32x ( Ha )
I can see three active area plages. AR12817 is visible practically on the NW limb. AR12816 is an elongated plage with a spot at it's SE side. AR12818 is seen as a curved plage with a filament at it's northern extremities. It too has a visible spot in Ha.

I can see 4 filaments in the SE including one long one. I can also see a filament to the SW of AR12816. I can see three filaments in the NW quadrant and another in the north-central area of the disc.

The SE limb has a really nice double prominence linked together by plasma tendrils. The southern component is the brighter and larger of the two. I can also see two faint prominences in the west and a barely visible on in the NE.

Astro-Tech AT72EDII w/Altair wedge and 540nm filter. 27.5x and 55x ( WL )
I can see the spots of AR12816, about 7 in all. Seeing probably inhibits me seeing more. The SE one is the largest but I cannot see any detail within it. I can see only a single spot within the faint faculae of AR12818. Seeing doesn't permit me to see the /umbra/penumbra structure. I cannot see the granulation at all.

Carpe Lumen

Thank you James.
you have pointed-out that I believe I got my AR numbers in the wrong order in my images published today here, as of course
AR2817 appeared and was numbered before the arrival of 2818's number... Confuscious Say !!

Your report is very much as my images today have shown, so well done on the observations.

Now can I carry-on with a can of Coke and some goodies ??

Regards
terry

Thanks for the report James, crazy busy here at the moment hence not being on SC much, hoping for down time this weekend and indulging in some sun which seems to have picked up nicely with activity...
