White light 26.04

Post by GKA »

First try with my Herschel wedge , and first solar image ever.
I used a QHY5L-II-C camera , that i bought used, and it had some dirt on the sensor or glass, but i'm pleased so far.
Used a Orion 120/1000 achromat and a baader continum filter on the camera.
Late afternoon , so there was some turbulence.
Captured in Sharpcap and used Autostakkert,Registax6 and Gimp to get the finished result.
Not much compared to the other pictures in here , but i'm happy for now.Image[/img][/img]
But i need some recomendations for a mono camera and a uv/ir cut filter.
As it is now , i'm using a cheap uv/ir cut filter from svbony , but i would like one that might be better,as for the camera , would zwo 174/8 work?
Thanks.

You did well on your first solar image. It closely resembles some of the ones I have done using my iPhone. And I have one of those Svbony UV-IR cut filters which screw into the camera nosepiece or into an eyepiece barrel. It seems to work ok, cheap or not.

Good first solar shot! I think i'd be tempted to get a green filter to use in conjunction with the setup you have already, that will give an improvement.

Well done on your very first solar image, welcome to the bright side. People on here use either the Zwo ASI 174 or 178 mono both capable camera's. Thanks for sharing.

I second Mark's comment. I use a 540nm green continuum filter by Baader Planetarium. It's a nice filter and it boosts contrast well.

I did, it's probably Just my editing skills, or the lack of them.
I didn't take any flats, and no stretcing in Gimp., so i will make some flats, an edit again 😊👍
By the way, how many flats should i take, i've heard evry thing from 200 to the same amount As the actual frames from solar.

But i'll keep learning.
Thanks for watching.
