27Apr: Spectacular active zone in Ca-K

Post by p_zetner »

Hello Everyone.

Had a chance to image the spectacular array of active regions 12818/12820/12821 in calcium.

Equipment: Stellarvue 115mm f/7 refractor, IDAS UV-IR cut + Lunt etalon + Omega Optics 2.2A filter, homebrew focal extender.
The effective focal length was about 4140mm (f/36).

Tried to capture this region at higher magnification but had a late start and the seeing was already deteriorating.

Cheers.
Peter

You've framed an excellent capture of the action Peter.

Well achieved...

Wooow they are Cracka Lakus, brilliant detail and as you say really active

Just waiting for some parts to arrive and I will try CAK again myself, but they will be rubbish compared to these for sure, my last effort was rubbish

Many thanks

That's very impressive indeed Peter! Have you tried a 'tilter' on the Omega filter to tune the CaK stack?

Thank you all for the encouraging feedback!

Mark: I like your suggestion of using a tilter. I will give that a go.

Cheers.

I love the level of details! I'm curious, what's the pixel pitch on your camera? I'd like to compare with mine and with my focal ratio I use with 90 mm.

Super image, your frac at f36 looks to be a good performer for CaK.

Thanks Filip, John and Eric.

The Stellarvue 115mm f/7 triplet APO is giving me results I’m happy with. I enjoy it for nighttime visual astronomy as well.

Filip: The sensor is a Sony IMX174, 1/1.2" cmos with 5.86 x 5.86 microns pitch and dimensions 1920 x 1200 px.

Cheers.
Peter
