2nd May Quiet Sun ScreenShots only

Post by Stardust5858 »

Hi all, heads up on a quiet sun toay. Just two screenshots at the mo. a few small proms in HA and CaK. Several small filaments dotted around the disk and the small south polar filaments still present. Small plage area in the North East limb. Hopefully it might develop. Hope you're all having a lovely sunny Sunday.

Thanks for the news :hamster: yes it is sunny, where did that come from as the forecast was for a miserable 2 days. I bet if get the scope out the Sun will go in, if I don't get the scope out the Sun may stay out?

Yeah, loving the new 100mm with the Lunt b1800 CaK module (pictured). I fitted a skywatcher autofocuser to it and Hitecastro usb control. Pictured with the Lunt 60mm DS.

Thank you for the beautiful photos. You're all so neat. Cool and compact electrofocusers, I see them for the first time.

Thanks for the update Ella.
Beautiful equipment and a lovely dome.
I like the screenshots too and I see you made a "UV" preset icon.

Thanks Mark, I'm so behind with the processing though, at least 4/5 days worth so I thought I'd post screenshots, lol. Could be day's before I post the image's I'm afraid.

Thanks Maurits, thought I'd post screenshots because I'm day's of data to work through so it could be a while before I post the results of the past several days imaging. Yes, I've found it helpful to preset UV for the calcium II K and R preset for the HA.

Hi,

Very good. I looked at the screenshot and saw in your H-alpha screenshot with Firecapture that you are clipping the white side (right of the histogram). This is not a good idea. This means you have overexposed parts. You should always have very very short flat line after the curve. Similar to what I can see in the CaK screenshot and here you can move your histogram still further to the right. Doing this gives you better details in the middle and dark tones.

I also see you use a lot of Gain. Gain always will introduce noise. I do not what the max FPS is but for example if it is 21 FPS as I see in Firecapture then the maximum exposure time could be about 45 ms and you can crank down gain. BTW, my H-alpha discs are made with an exposure time of 50 ms and I think the details are sharp.

IMHO

Thanks Rainer, appreciate your input. I'm new to using firecapture, usually use Sharpcap. I'll take a look at the settings next time I've got clear skies.
