May 5th, 2021 Eruptive prominence
Hello everyone.
Eruptive prominence at the NE margin, rotated 90 °. On closer inspection I suspect that it was even a plasma loop!
Active region SE 16.32h CEST rotated 90 °.
8" f6 selfmade Achromat, Baader 160 D-ERF in tube, 4x TV Powermate, SolarSpectrum 0.3À, ZWO ASI290mm.
22Kg-Sun bucket, and Cocpit
CS,
Jozef

Re: May 5th, 2021 Eruptive prominence
I noticed this prom on the GONG image that I was using for reference today but when I looked in the place the GONG ( Big Bear Ca ) showed the prom all I saw there visually was a much smaller dimmer prom. It had already came and went by the time the image was updated. I was just a little too late to see it visually.
Thanks for an excellent view of it Jozef. And that is a really nice homebuilt solar refractor. I dream of an instrument 6" or over for solar work AND the seeing to utilize it!
And an eruptive prominence often signals an active area's presence!

Re: May 5th, 2021 Eruptive prominence
Hello everyone.
Thank you for your kind feedback.
@James.
The weather yesterday was a catastrophe, stormy westerly winds and thick clouds. I had to solve a problem with the cam transmission to the PC, so the weather was fine. I also changed the telescope on the occasion to see what my old self-made 8-inch model can reproduce with the SolarSpectrum. It wasn't after 4 p.m. that there was a gap every now and then and I immediately thought of testing the station wagon. If the seeing was very bad, due to the wind and the additional load on the telescope, I was able to take the pictures ..... I'm excited to see what will come about when the conditions are better.
I caught the "loop" by chance in a gap in the cloud. The spicules are just smeared pulp, and show how the seeing was!
CS,
Jozef

Great close-ups Jozef and beautiful equipment.
Jozef, how can you know (measure) de diameter of the Earth in function of the sunspot or active region?

Re: May 5th, 2021 Eruptive prominence
Hello Maurits.
Thanks for the feedback.
I do not measure, but I know that my magnification factor for the sun is such that the earth in the picture must be 40x40 pixels. And the easiest way is: Spicule height 7-8`000Km Earth 12714Km diameter. So you can + - balance the earth well on the spicules. On the chromosphere it is the rosettes, which have an average diameter of 12-15,000 km. That is then also simply the earth + - to be compared there.

Yes, that is always or often the case. Today I looked at the area on the Northeast edge in the GONG Monitor,
and I think there is definitely an active region coming.

Great images and a fascinating instrument.
The scale of the surface features is impressive!
Plus, a short, but pleasant walk to the observatory.
