Corona and other things

Post by hk160 »

Please forgive me to not double post and instead just providing a link (I hope this is OK), but I thought this may be interesting for some people here.

I had posted about about my original Corona observations last November, and finally I had the chance to go out again and repeat this week:

https://www.cloudynights.com/topic/7701 ... n-finally/

In the mean time, from lower elevation, I have made some prominence observations as well. Here I describe an observation of prominences without a filter

https://www.cloudynights.com/topic/7569 ... ominences/

and prominences in different spectral lines, this time in color

https://www.cloudynights.com/topic/7571 ... -in-color/

During this time, I have also improved my small 1" instrument which I post about here, showing some prominence images as well

https://www.cloudynights.com/topic/7638 ... ronagraph/

Anyway, I hope this is interesting to some :)

Klaus

Hi

Very interesting.

What commercial coronographs are worth looking out for?

Cheers. Andrew.

Well done Klaus :hamster: the corona pictures are fabulous, especially the overlays :bow :bow :bow

I could do this with my Baader Coronagraph, if only I had a very tall mountain of which we have none in the UK :(

Klaus,

Very nice! I am glad you posted this. :) Amateur coronagraphy is something that is open for grabs. So few amateurs even attempt it. High mountains and dry air do help though!

Thanks for all the replies!

I do not think there are any commercially available units anymore. The Baader unit was last made 10-15 years ago, and Beloptik seems to have discontinued their similar unit as well:

https://beloptik.de/en/solar-coronagrap ... ce-viewer/

I am not sure if either one would show the Corona since they were really designed for prominences. But it would certainly worth a try - but one would need a proper filter to even attempt it.
