May 9th - Short Ha Session

Post by MapleRidge »

Good day everyone...

I had high hopes for a long session on Sunday morning to image the activity with multiple filters, but the morning grew to frustration as cirrus cloud started to blow in, followed soon after by thicker cloud cover. As a result, I only managed to get the full disk images in clear skies and the higher res images were shot between clouds until I finally gave up as the breaks became very limited.

It was still a great view of the new AR and the filaments on the disk as well. The images below is a composite of separate disk and limb exposures, taken through the LS80T/LS75FHa/B1800Ha and ASI174MM camera. The first has a positive limb and the second has the limb inverted:

My images through the modded DS scope were limited to prime focus with the ASI174MM...plans for more focal length were scuttled by the clouds :( The CR-150 OTA and the pair of DSII etalons were used with the B1800Ha blocker. The fist images are the new AR2822, showing lots of flaring:

The second image is the eastern limb where a new spot of activity was present and a small prom also was captured:

There was also a disturbed region near in the southern hemisphere near mid disk...shows magnetic field disturbance as well as a small filament:

There were also filaments visible in the southern disk as well as an arc formation in the north west:

I was glad to capture these before the cloud set in until I had to leave for the balance of the day...of course it cleared off significantly when i drove out the driveway

It looks like the coming week may have some targets for those who can get out!!!

Hi Brian: these came out really well, beautiful detail in all of them. You and I get similar weather but yesterday I did not even try as too busy for Mother’s Day. Hope to catch the new AR sometime later this week, if conditions cooperate.

Fabulous set of images Brian, the big AR looks amazing, especially when flaring. I haven't seen a good flare for a few years now, it is about time I saw one again :bow :hamster:

A beautiful set of images, Brian. AR2822 is looking nice and lively. I’m hoping to see this for myself this morning, if the weather holds out okay.
