Full Disk Mosaic in Ha with AR12822 and AR12823
I try to do a mosaic with my 107 scope and the result is underwhelming. Maybe bad seeing is contributing to some local lost of contrast.
15 panels, 100 best of 500 frames each.Minh.

That's a beautiful image under the "seeing conditions" Minh.

That's a great attempt doing a mosaic is a tough job especially with 15 panels, you did very well. It takes a lot of luck to get a seamless image with consistency between panels and the greater the number the chances get harder.

Thanks Alexandra. It's really hell of a job aligning and blending the mosaic.
I've never thought bad seeing even under high transparentcy can affects things that much. I'll be better prepared next time.EGRAY_OBSERVATORY wrote: ↑Wed May 12, 2021 10:44 am That's a beautiful image under the "seeing conditions" Minh.

Good result in the circumstances, Quarks aren't designed for this, you're also off band (in the red). Try stopping the 107 down.

Yeah, the Quark going off band due to the extreme ambient heat that day (about 40 degree celsius). Could you please share how did you know that?marktownley wrote: ↑Wed May 12, 2021 7:04 pm Good result in the circumstances, Quarks aren't designed for this, you're also off band (in the red). I wondered that too. Mark has good eyes and lots of experience. Still, how can he tell that. It's not obvious to my inexperienced eyes.

Re: Full Disk Mosaic in Ha with AR12822 and AR12823
If you look closely you will see dark rosettes of mottles across the disc, they are flat and dark with white patches between. If on band the mottles would be 3D in structure and fluffy with no obvious white patches around, the surface would be more uniform and stuck up like grass. Very hard to describe but if you look at Rainers images you see this bumpy effect of mottles rather than dark rosettes viewtopic.php?f=4&t=31709
I hope this helps

Thanks Alexandra. I kinda see it now. But I still have a question, how did Mark know I was in the red ?Montana wrote: ↑Thu May 13, 2021 8:06 am If you look closely you will see dark rosettes of mottles across the disc, they are flat and dark with white patches between. Re: Full Disk Mosaic in Ha with AR12822 and AR12823
Well, there is a simple answer to that but you have to look very closely. According to Zirin (Astrophysics of the Sun) p 174 in the blue wing the spicules are doubles called 'twinning'. In the red wing the spicules are singles. That is the only way I know that you can tell. I need to scan in the photo for you don't I

Re: Full Disk Mosaic in Ha with AR12822 and AR12823
Hi,
That is an excellent result for using 15 panels. The H-alpha also from my point of view is in Band. Maybe put a bit more attention in focusing ?
IMHO

Since the seeing was so bad I can't chase the focus and settle on what "looks" the best. Will try again with better seeing later. Thanka
