Sun FD in H-Alpha 9th of June 2021 with huge prom on the NW limb.

Post by arnedanielsen »

Dear all,

I got very lucky today when went outside to do a quick FD session with the Takahashi Sky-90II with Coronado 90mm/BF15, Coronado 2x CeMax and ASI 1600mm PRO setup. I immediately noticed a huge prom on the NW-limb. It turned out that the departing AR2831 had erupted just minutes before!

Here's a short animation of the explosion from the GONG-network:

And here's my first capture about 10 minutes after the explosion.

Inversed and processed to better show the prominence.

I took some more exposure (including a timelapse that I haven't had the time to process yet), but the prominence faded quite rapidly.

Best regards,
Arne

Fantastic Arne!
Thanks a lot for your post.
I suppose there is no way to predict when so violent phenomena are about to happen. Isn't it?
We just need luck?
Best wishes,
Alexandros

I got an alert on this through my SpaceWeatherLive app this morning just over two hours before I got up. It was a C Class flare that set this eruptive prominence off that was associated with AR12831 or AR12827 just over the NW limb.

Your timing was excellent and nice captures. GONG Udaipur shows it very well too!

Thank you very much Dan, Terry, Alexandros, Eric, James and Alexandra for your kind comments!

I was really impressed with how fast the eruption changed/moved.

Arne
