10.06.2021 Partial solar eclipse.

Post by Rusted »

The cloud remained thin until maximum obscuration.

I quickly discovered that my 1500mm focal length H-a telescope with the '174 camera produced a ridiculously small field of view for an eclipse.
So I moved the camera onto my white light Vixen alongside. Still a rather limited view of the solar disk.

I have some snaps using my DSLR and my Kowa 884 spotting scope. Soiled by dust bunnies and not worth reprocessing to clean them up.
The problem was that I hadn't rehearsed with an eclipse in mind. I should have mounted the spotting scope on the big telescopes for a free ride.

Here is a white light capture through my Vixen 90/11 with Lunt 1.25" wedge and '174MM camera.
Maximum was at 12.37[CET] so this one at 12.20 was quite close. The orientation is inaccurate.

OK, discovered them now :hamster:

Well done, sounds like my story but you got a lovely white light. Now you make me realise mine are upside down!

Thank you all for your kind words. :bow

I deserve no praise. It was all completely haphazard given the decades I have been at this pastime. :D

Thicker clouds were forecast but arrived only at maximum obscuration of 30% locally.
Which placed me in a far more favourable [but unexpected] situation than many in Europe.
Only to find me wanting in the hour of need for a cool [or very much wiser] head.
